Getting to Punta Mita in 2026-27: Flights, the New Terminal and the Bridge

Getting to Punta Mita means flying into Puerto Vallarta, and the airport and the roads around it are changing. Here is what is confirmed and what is still a projection.

Flights

Puerto Vallarta had 478 weekly departures to 54 destinations in May 2026, 24 in the United States, 16 in Canada and 14 in Mexico. Porter Airlines starts Edmonton flights on November 3, three a week, and Air Canada resumes Calgary on December 10, also three a week. Porter began flying from Toronto in November 2025 and was due to rise to five a week from mid-December that year. Southwest added San Diego and St. Louis in March 2026. Schedules change, so check your airline close to travel.

The airport

Terminal 2 was about 66 percent complete in May 2026. The first six contact gates were expected by December 2026 and full operation in early 2027, adding capacity for around 8 million passengers a year. I found no confirmation since May that the December date still holds, so treat it as a projection.

The bridge

The Amado Nervo bridge, linking Ixtapa and San Vicente across the Ameca river, was about 90 percent complete in mid-2026, with the Jalisco governor projecting an opening between October and November 2026. The federal authority sets the official date, and I have found no report that it has opened. Once open, it is expected to shorten the crossing between Puerto Vallarta and the Nayarit side.

What it means for your arrival
